Career day for PhD students and Postdocs

The Industrial Career Fair connects young researchers with leading companies in the life science industry to explore career paths beyond academia.

This 3-hour afternoon event brings together PhD students, postdocs, and industry representatives for an inspiring program of talks, dialogue, and networking. You will gain insight into how your academic skills and scientific expertise translate into real-world impact, innovation, and development across industry sectors.

The fair emphasizes exploration and exchange, helping you discover the wide range of non-academic career opportunities within biotech, pharma, consultancy, and intellectual property.

Please note that this is not a recruitment event. Participating companies are not expected to advertise job openings or recruit for specific roles. Instead, the focus is on learning, conversation, and inspiration.

Programme

Registration & Arrival from 12:00 to 13:00
Participants are invited to arrive early to register and settle in before the program begins. Upon arrival, you will receive event materials and have the opportunity to grab a refreshment and start informal conversations with fellow attendees. This is also a good chance to get familiar with the venue and prepare for the afternoon’s sessions.

Welcome Address from 13:00
Julien Duxin, Head of the MoMeD Graduate Programme, will open the event and welcome participants to an afternoon dedicated to career discovery, collaboration, and inspiration. His remarks will highlight the importance of building bridges between academia and industry and the value of exploring diverse career trajectories.

Inspirational Talk from 13:05
Career Development Consultant Mary Kagendo Kobia will set the tone for the day with a talk focused on transferable skills and navigating opportunities beyond academia. Drawing on her experience supporting researchers in their professional growth, Mary will share practical insights on identifying strengths, embracing career transitions, and approaching professional development with confidence and curiosity.

Company Introductions from 13:20
Representatives from participating companies will give short presentations to introduce their organizations, missions, and work cultures. These talks aim to provide an overview of how researchers can apply their skills outside academia — from R&D and data analysis to project management, consultancy, and innovation.

Networking Fair from 13:50-16:00
The second half of the event features an open networking session, where participants and company representatives can engage in informal conversations. This is a chance to ask questions, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections — all in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
