DRA Winter School
The winter school takes place 29 January 2021, online via Zoom.
The course is a mandatory part of the curriculum for PhD students affiliated with the graduate programme in pharmaceutical sciences, Drug Research Academy (DRA).
DRA supervisors and DRA scholars are also invited to participate in the DRA winter school.
Guest speakers at this winter school are:
- Timo Minssen, Professor, Director, Centre for Advanced Studies in Biomedical Innovation Law (CeBIL), University of Copenhagen on legal aspects of big data and AI within pharmaceutical sciences & related biosciences.
- Professor Lars Juhl Jensen, Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, University of Copenhagen on network biology and text mining in drug target discovery.
The winter school objectives are to stimulate networking between PhD students affiliated with the Drug Research Academy (DRA) and networking between PhD students and senior researchers in pharmaceutical sciences. It offers a chance for PhD students to discuss their project with other PhD students and supervisors.
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
- 1st year PhD student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
a. Critically review abstracts and poster presentations
b. Reflect on oral presentations - 2nd year PhD student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
a. Present and discuss a scientific poster
b. Reflect on oral presentations - 3rd year PhD student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
a. Present and discuss their research project orally
b. Critically assess abstracts and poster presentations
c. Reflect on oral presentations
The winter school is a mixture of PhD students’ presentations and plenary lectures:
Presentation of DRA PhD students’ projects: 3rd year PhD students will present their projects orally and 2nd year PhD students will present their projects on posters.
Plenary keynote speakers will give a lecture on broad topics relevant to PhD students in pharmaceutical sciences.
A committee of DRA supervisors will review the oral presentations. 3rd year PhD students will review the posters. Prizes to best oral presentations and best poster will be granted.

Mixture of plenary lectures, discussions, oral and poster presentations.
Preparation: An abstract of the project must be submitted by 2nd and 3rd year students. The PhD students must prepare either an oral presentation and act as poster assessors (3rd year) or a poster (2nd year), or prepare to act as poster reviewers (1st year).
3rd year PhD students will present directly in Zoom. 20 minutes including Q&A.
2nd year PhD students will record their 5 minutes pitch of the poster for upload before the winter school and 15 minutes is allotted per poster, 5 minutes recorded pitch and then 10 minutes Q&A from poster review groups (VIP and 1st year PhD students) and poster assessment groups (3rd year PhD students).
2nd year PhD students have to produce both the video (free choice of platform) and a poster PowerPoint or similar for the screen share upon Q&A.

The winter school takes place 29 January 2021 from 09:00 to 18:00. A social event is to be organised in the evening.
Course location is online via Zoom (the participants will be provided with link to the sessions).
PhD students have to:
- Register via this Link to registration form before 5 January 2021
- Choose programme participation via this Programme participation form before 11 January 2021
- 2nd and 3rd year PhD students have to make an abstract (Link to abstract template) of the work presented at the summer school and email it to dra@sund.ku.dk before 15 January 2021
- 2nd year PhD students have to record a 5 minutes' pitch of their poster and email the video to dra@sund.ku.dk before 22 January 2021
